Oxinium contains trace amounts of nickel.15

  • The S&N femoral component uses Zirconium 2.5 wt% Niobium alloy.  Although there is no nickel added to this alloy, there are trace levels of nickel up to a maximum limit of 70ppm (0.30070 wt%) and chromium up to a maximum limit of 200ppm (0.020 wt%).16
  • Peer-reviewed journal articles report that extreme complications from metal sensitivity occur in less than 1% of joint replacement patients, and conclude that the risk to patients is minimal.16,17
