Converge® Design Rationale
Comprehensive Modular Acetabular System
|
The cementless, press-fit shell system is designed to accommodate
virtually every press-fit primary or revision clinical situation. The Converge System includes 6 different shell styles (hemispherical, cluster-hole, rimflare, rimflare with screwholes, multi-hole, and protrusio), which enable a 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm or 2.0 mm press-fit for optimal initial stability. The Converge System accommodates a broad range of OD sizes (39mm to 81mm) and ID sizes (22 mm, 26 mm, 28 mm, 32 mm, 38 mm, 44 mm) with a full range of insert options (standard, hooded, protrusio). |

|
Proven Biologic Fixation
|
The Converge System is based on 15+ years of successful long-term
clinical results with
Cancellous-Structured TitaniumTM (CSTiTM)
porous-coating . CSTi is manufactured from sharp-cornered commercially pure titanium grains that capitalize on tissues affinity for titanium and rough surfaces. The CSTi pore size is well above the minimum (50mm) necessary for in-growth. |
|
Industry Leading Locking Mechanism with Optimal Shell Thickness
|
Optimal congruency between the shell and insert with a high push-out
and lever-out strength ensure an intimate and stable fit to
effectively minimize micromotion, poly wear, consequent debris; and
ultimately, the risk of osteolysis. The 3.5 mm to 3.75 mm shell thickness range for the Converge shells closely matches the modulus of bone to minimize the stiffness of the implant in the acetabulum while maximizing the possible insert thickness. |
|
Complete Sealability
|
Screwhole and dome hole plugs limit potential for tissue growth and
polyethylene debris from migrating into the backside of the shell. Every open hole in the Converge shell, including the dome hole and screwholes, is either sealed or can be sealed prior to seating the polyethylene insert. |
|
Advanced Tribological System
|
The Converge System features advanced bearing technologies,
Metasul® metal-on-metal
and Durasul® highly crosslinked
polyethylene, which are designed to dramatically reduce
wear-related complications. Larger diameter heads (38 mm and 44 mm) more closely replicate a patient’s anatomy and are designed to enhance stability and increase range of motion. |
