From Back Patient To Marathon Man
He did it! John completed his first marathon on June 19, 2004, after
overcoming a serious back injury and having successful back surgery. Just
seven years ago, John was in agony after injuring his back while doing yard
work. Now he's in the best shape of his life and ran his first marathon -
the 28th annual Grandma's Marathon, in Duluth, Minnesota. He finished the
26.2-mile run in 5 hours and 27 minutes. After injuring his back, John had
minimally invasive surgery with the
BAK® Interbody Fusion System to fuse the painful vertebrae. Now, in
addition to running, John bikes, skis, swims and roller blades.
| "It seems like just yesterday I was wondering if I would ever be able to walk without a nagging stiffness in my back," said John, a Minneapolis-area resident. "After finishing Grandma's Marathon with no pain, I have my sights set on completing the Twin Cities Marathon." |
