Zimmer® M/L Taper Hip Prosthesis
|
Overview For physicians who favor a porous philosophy, or a non-cemented approach to hip replacement surgery, Zimmer offers several options, including the M/L Taper Hip Prosthesis. The M/L Taper is a titanium alloy stem that is coated with strategically placed titanium alloy plasma spray to allow the bone to grow onto the implant to help provide secure fixation once implanted. |

Minimally Invasive Surgery Friendly
Today, there are new total
hip replacement procedures intended to help make it possible for those
suffering from hip pain caused by osteoarthritis.
The M/L Taper is a popular stem choice for physicians who perform minimally invasive procedures.
While individual results can vary, the goal of this procedure is for patients to experience less postoperative pain, a faster recovery period, and a shorter hospital stay. Patients may be able to experience an earlier return to their daily activities, as opposed to the 3-4 month recovery period that is common for a traditional hip surgery.
These include:

Bone Conserving During hip replacement surgery, the physician will remove some of the bone in the femoral canal (thigh bone) to make room for the new hip stem. The slim design of the M/L Taper reduces the amount of bone the physician would remove from the canal.

Range of Motion The slim neck geometry of the M/L Taper is designed to provide improved range of motion. Range of motion, or the movement of your hip joint in the hip socket, is required to do such things as walking, sitting, bending down to pick up the newspaper, or golfing. The more range of motion you have, the easier it is for you to carry out the activities of daily living. If you have reduced range of motion, you might experience pain, inflammation, or stiffness when you attempt these movements or find you cannot perform them at all in severe cases. |

Am I a Candidate? Active patients with good overall health and bone stock are good candidates for the M/L Taper. |
