Surgical Skills Course Overviews |
|
Advanced CoursesAfter a comprehensive didactic presentation led by surgeon facilitators, surgeon participants will be teamed into pairs in the bioskills lab. During the lab, one surgeon will act as the lead surgeon, while the other assists during the first session of the lab. During the second session of the lab, the surgeons will switch the assistant/lead roles. Each surgeon’s sales associate will pass instruments to their surgeon while their surgeon is performing the procedure. |

Zimmer® MIS™ 2-Incision ™ Hip Procedure
The MIS 2-Incision Hip procedure is a novel, minimally invasive, fluoroscopy-assisted THA procedure. It uses implants with established track records and requires only two small incisions. This approach has been designed to minimize scarring, shorten the hospitalization period, and accelerate rehabilitation of the affected hip compared with the classical approach.
Zimmer® MIS™ Anterolateral Hip Procedure
The MIS Anterolateral approach is a minimally invasive THA procedure devised by Heinz Röttinger, M.D., as a modification of the classic Watson-Jones anterolateral approach. The incision courses between the glutei and the tensor fascia lata muscles directly to the hip capsule. This intermuscular interval through a small incision provides good exposure for total hip replacement and preserves muscle integrity with the goal that rehabilitation time can be improved. The posterior capsule remains intact, easing concerns about posterior dislocations.
Zimmer® MIS™ Posterior Hip Procedure
The MIS approach utilizes a comprehensive set of instruments designed to help reduce the complexity of minimally invasive THA. The MIS Posterior Hip approach provides predictable and reproducible component position by optimizing exposure and access to the hip while offering the potential for rapid recovery by protecting the delicate soft tissue structures.
Zimmer® MIS™ Quad-Sparing™ Total Knee Procedure
The MIS Quad-Sparing TKA procedure is a minimally invasive technique that can be used with a variety of clinically proven NexGen® Complete Knee Solution implants. This approach utilizes a capsular incision, preserves the quadriceps mechanism, protects the suprapatellar pouch and minimizes soft tissue manipulations and disruption. The technique has been designed to reduce incision length, shorten the hospitalization period, and improve ROM of the affected knee compared with current, traditional, non-minimally invasive approaches.
Zimmer® Total RevisionAbility Hip and Knee Solutions
Advancements in surgical techniques, especially as they relate to revision procedures in the field of orthopaedics, continue to provide surgeons with exciting new treatment options and contribute to positive patient outcomes. One of these advancements is Zimmer Total RevisionAbility, a system of comprehensive, intraoperative, solution-making capabilities in revision arthroplasty. Created by the world’s finest designers and surgeons, Zimmer Total RevisionAbility combines expert instruction, support, instrumentation, and components including Trabecular Metal™ Technology, designed specifically to address the unpredictability of revision surgery in the OR.
Instructional CoursesAfter a comprehensive didactic presentation led by surgeon facilitators, surgeon participants will be grouped into teams of four or less in the bioskills lab. During the lab, the surgeon team works through the surgical session together. The surgeons’ sales associates will be in the lab, passing and assisting with instrumentation as needed. |

MIS™ Sub-vastus/Mid-vastus TKA & MIS™ Unicompartmental Training
The MIS Sub-vastus/Mid-vastus incorporates two minimally invasive TKA approaches that vary in the degree and direction with which the incision violates the vastus medialis muscle. Both techniques are designed to lessen trauma to the muscles and tendons and have been shown to improve straight-leg raise assessments, and reduce pain scores of the affected knee when compared with the current traditional approaches.
The MIS Unicompartmental Knee is a conservative solution for patients with isolated osteoarthritis affecting the medial or lateral compartment. The goals of this minimally invasive procedure are to minimize soft tissue disruption while improving limb alignment and function without a TKA.
MIS™ UniSpacer® Knee System
MIS UniSpacer Knee System is a minimally invasive alternative treatment for patients suffering from moderate to severe chondromalacia involving mainly the medial compartment of the knee. The self centering UniSpacer Knee is implanted with a minimally invasive technique that requires no bone resection and no fixation of the implant. It is an approach that does not compromise future joint arthroplasty procedures.
